Lexington Area Hospitals to Participate in Press Conference on November 20 to Announce Their Plans to Go Tobacco-Free Campus Wide

On November 20, hospitals from the Lexington area, and many surrounding areas, will participate in a press conference to announce their plans to go tobacco-free campus wide.
Recognizing that tobacco use is a deadly addiction, participating health care providers formed a Tobacco-free Healthcare Collaborative last year, which is staffed by the Kentucky Hospital Association.

The press conference will focus on the participating health care providers’ tobacco-free policies that will apply to the providers’ hospitals, outpatient centers, medical office buildings, physician offices, urgent care centers, laboratories, classrooms, clinics, offices and other owned and leased facilities. The objective is to inform the public of the hospitals’ tobacco-free policies and to remind them of the providers’ enhanced efforts to help their employees and community members quit using tobacco products.

Collectively, the providers have well over 13,000 employees and thousands of volunteers, physicians and medical students. In addition, the providers care for more than 1.5 million patients each year and welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to their campuses annually.

Mike Rust, as well as representatives from the Department of Public Health, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
